Startup
There’s a feeling of excitement in the air when starting up a newly assembled machine. The wiring is complete, the e-stops are all deactivated, the engineer calls “clear,” and a green button is pushed. As the whine of the motor kicks in you wonder, “will everything go smoothly?” Your ears and eyes scan the machine for anything unusual. After a few minutes of running, the excitement subsides and you begin running through the tests and when everyone works together, it culminates in a great feeling for a successful startup.
That’s how this post feels.

Me
Here’s a little about me. My name is Ben and I’m the General Manager of Garvey Corporation, a company started by my great grandfather, Gordon Garvey. I’m 31 years old, married with two beautiful kids. My Dad was the president of Garvey until he passed away at the age of 55 from melanoma. We miss him, but his spirit and influence are still felt around here every day. He taught me that we don’t sell conveyors and accumulators, we sell increased throughput for our customers.
My goal for this blog is to talk about things interesting to people inside and outside of the packaging industry, give an inside look at what it’s like at an American manufacturing company, and highlight cool technology others may not be aware of. Hopefully, I won’t say or do anything on here that will get me in trouble. That can be tough when your mom is also your boss.
