Garvey:  A key component in PMT’s Packaging Line of the Year 2007

Packaging Machinery Technology (PMT) awarded Swisher International with its annual Packaging Line of the Year for it’s new fully automated Pouch Tobacco line. Garvey worked closely with integrator BluePrint Automation and supplied its famous line of modular stainless steel conveyors to ensure smooth and efficient handling of each pouch.

“Winning this award means a great deal to Swisher International, Inc. as we move forward,” says Greg Vike, plant manager, Swisher International. “I am sure that there is great pride at BluePrint Automation, Kliklok-Woodman, Garvey Corporation and Wexxar as this project was complex and a strong move forward in how our chew packaging would evolve. The award consummates all the time, planning, and teamwork of the participants within our company and the companies that worked on this project.”

Swisher International was presented with the award at a special conference at Pack Expo Las Vegas 2007 on Monday, October 15 from 12:45 -1:30pm and the line was featured as the cover story in Packaging Machinery Technology’s November/December ’07 issue. The Garvey Infinity Accumulator is the feature story in this month’s issue of Practical Winery and Vineyard, using Rodney Strong Vineyards as a case study in bottling unstable tapered bottles.

The Garvey Infinity Wine Bottle Accumulator was featured in the July/August 08 issue of Practical Winery and Vineyard.

Three Garvey Infinity accumulation tables were installed to accumulate and single-file tapered bottles. Other accumulation systems, such as a bi-directional conveyor, cannot handle tapered bottles because they rely on back-pressure and right angle transfers to move bottles between conveyors. The Garvey Infinity accumulates and side transfers on a moving surface with zero back-pressure. “You can’t have more than about six to eight tapered bottles accumulate on a bi-directional conveyor or they start to fall,” adds Jim Magness of Rodney Strong Vineyards. “With the Infinity tables, the bottles do not back up.”

Garvey Corporation Remembers Mark Garvey

We at Garvey Corporation are greatly saddened at the passing of our beloved president, Mark C. Garvey. Mark was one of the most dynamic personalities in packaging today. His thirty-four years of service to our industry will be missed by all, but his teachings of thruput analysis and the protection of the constraint will live on forever. His dream was to have proper accumulation planned into every production line at the very onset of the project. With his persistence and tenacity this is becoming a reality. We have been a family business for over 80 years and the passing of a loved one is deeply felt by all. Now in its third generation and with the fourth already deeply involved in the business, we at Garvey look forward to serving the packaging industry for many more to come.

PRESS RELEASE

CHICAGO, Illinois, April 5, 2005 – The Garvey Corporation of Blue Anchor, New Jersey today announced that the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has issued an order forbidding Barry-Wehmiller Design Group, Fleetwood, Inc. and any subsidiaries, affiliates, divisions or related companies, from manufacturing, displaying, promoting, marketing, selling, shipping, distributing, or installing, any of Fleetwood’s CMAS product accumulators. The Court found that it is “reasonably likely” that a jury will find that Fleetwood’s CMAS accumulator products are covered by the claims of Garvey’s patents relating to its Infinity line of accumulator products. “Garvey Corporation deeply appreciates the time and effort which the United States District Court in Chicago clearly invested in accessing Garvey’s patent infringement contentions against the defendants” said Mark Garvey, Garvey’s president.
